Name: Christine Roberts (nee Pile)

I went to this school between 1952-1956. Very fond memories, it was all girls then. My first two years had Miss Francis and the second two Mrs. Tilburywas the best school years of my life, loved it, even down to the outside toilets and the frozen milk in Winter thawing in front of an open fire in the classroom! Prize giving was the event of the year, I was lucky enough to get prizes, always chose paints as loved art. Your school was the best ever and am sure it is just as good today.
Kind regards, Christine Roberts (nee Pile)

I just dropped by to see how the school is coping in these modern days! And it comes as no surprise to see how much the pupils love the school and enjoy learning, and enjoying their childhood here. The comments made by earlier visitors of yesteryear bear out what a happy enjoyable place this is now and was in the past. Make the most of your time here children it goes too soon! Have fun and be good citizens in the future.

I was here from 1963 -1967 when I went on to Spencer Park which sadly is no longer a secondary school. My teachers were Headmasters Mr Trendell/Mr Twilley, Mr Paige (sadly no longer with us), Miss Emerson ,Mrs Jones, Miss Song.

Fond memories

Hi, I was at this school when Mr Trendall was head. I actually saw him walking past the Hythe and Saltwood sailing club whilst I was on the balcony, (Hythe Kent) this must have been 20 years ago, he was still a very upright man with that forcefull walk. I went up to introduce myself, he could not have remembered me after so many years but, I said to him he taught us morris dancing his eyes lit up he remembered the occasion, he was a morris dancer. Nice to meet him just that once more. I am now 65. I played for the school football team coached by Mr (his name has slipped my memory, we won the Wandsworth boys league that year Mr Brown (bald as a coote, remembering him telling us a bit of advise, he said as soon as I walk out of the gate he forgets about the school and any problems, he said remember that when you grow up and do the same) was my form master in one of the wooden huts. A great school, we had the demarcation line between the boys and girls school in the playground, love letters flew back and forth, great times went to school with cardboard in your shoe now and then to fill a hole magic, children don't know what they are missing today.
People at the school then was Freddie (goalkeeper) Alfie Radford Peter Goldsmith, Andy, Brownsill, Kessler, Murphy, the surnames slipped by me. I have a picture of the school team they won the league shield think it was 1957-58 might with the headmaster and Mr -------- might have been Mr Knight, I think he was poss Indian origin great bloke.
I seem to remember Everest was concurred when I was there, it was on a notice board in the hall.
My regards to all who read this. Trust you have all made good. Those were the good old days!

I have just seen it, fantastic website, well done. The new site definitely has a nice fresh look and is so much easier to navigate to the information you require. It also reflects the vibrancy and diversity of the school and how much it has improved and progressed over the years!

Wow the school certainly has changed from when I was there (mid 1960's through 1971 when I went to Southfields) although the building still looks the same. Drove by it recently when in toen for my mothers funeral and it brought back a lot of memories. Good to see all the changes.

My wife,(birth name, Wendy Marguerite Dorothy PRIOR), who sadly died recently (19 Jan 2006), attended your school in the period 1932-1939. She was born on 24 Sep 1927. She was evacuated in Sep 1939 to Chiddingfold, Surrey. I still have her evacuation label which she wore when evacuated. On it, is says:- "London County Council School Number 983" On the reverse it says :- "London County Council Wandsworth, C: The Earlsfield L.C.C. (S.B.) School, Tranmere Road, S.W.18 (near Earlsfield Station) PRIOR WENDY L.C.C. 983"

I went to this school between 1963 and 1967 when it was called Earlsfield Junior school. The Boys and Girls had to play seperately in adjoining playgrounds. The headmaster was Mr Trendell, he was well known for giving naughty pupils "six of the best" whacks on the bottom with the cane. Mr Knight (Maths, Art and History) was a great teacher who was well respected and told engaging stories. Miss Emerson (English and Geography) all very strict teachers who would not allow any "silly nonsense" from children, who would be expected to conduct themselves in the correct manner at all times. I have good memories of being at this school. A year after leaving to go to Hillcroft Secondary school in Beechcroft road, we were flooded out of our Maskell Road house 19th September 1968. Local residents rescued us from 1st floor bedrooms using ladders and rowing boats from Battersea Park boating lake. I was told I wouldn't amount to much on my School report. I am now an operations bridge manager at a very large internet data centre in Milton Keynes, where I have lived happily for the last thirty one years.
