Year 3 Spring Learning

Welcome back to school and what a spring term this will be! We hope you have had a restful break and are ready for more exciting learning in 2019. Our topic, which will be for both Spring 1 and 2 is ‘What makes a good community?’ Within this topic, the children will be learning about the local area and finding out exactly what Earlsfield residents think. We can’t wait to host a tea party for older people that live within the local area on Tuesday 26th February 2019. This will be a superb opportunity to ask questions and entertain our guests with a singing and recorder performance. Not forgetting… serving our special visitors scrumptious tea and cake! In the second half of the Spring term we will be learning how rivers can affect communities and learn more about the infrastructure.
In Science we will be rounding up our topic of light and shadows and move on to learning about plants. Children will explore the requirements of plants for life and growth (air, light, water, nutrients from the soil and room to grow) and how they vary from plant to plant. We will also identify and describe the functions of different parts of flowering plants: roots, stem/trunk, leaves and flowers and investigate the way in which water is transported within plants. It is important for children to explore the part that flowers play in the life cycle of flowering plants, including pollination, seed formation and seed dispersal! Keep checking homework books for information on times tables to be learnt and practised! We value your support enormously and we are looking forward to an exciting term ahead.

  • Who is part of our community?
  • How has our community changed over the years?
  • How can we show that we value our community?
  • What amenities are the most important to a community?
  • Can I say why rivers are important for a community?
  • How can flooding affect a community?
