Year 3 Autumn Learning

Welcome back to school and to a new adventure in Year 3. We hope you had a relaxing summer break and are raring to go! We have lots to look forward to this year including our trips to Butser Farm and the British Museum. In Literacy we will be exploring some wonderful books including: Into The Forest and Firebird. Please continue to encourage a love of reading by listening to your child regularly. Learning timestables are crucial and knowing these will support your child throughout Earlsfield and their entire lives. Look out for this in the homework book to find out which multiplication table will be our focus. Please encourage your child to question the world around them as Science is also another important subject! Don’t forget that all children have access to Mathletics and we encourage them to use this frequently. Let us know if you need a reminder of log-ins or passwords. We value your support enormously and we are looking forward to an exciting year ahead.

Autumn

The Romans

During this topic Year 3 children answer the topic question ‘Why was the Roman Army so successful?’ Through the use of drama we will explore how others were affected by the Roman army and what made them so successful. In addition to this we will analyse the pros and cons of joining the army. Using a wide range of historical resources, the children will learn how the Roman army worked and why it was so successful. Alongside History, the children will have the opportunity to work with our specialist art teacher to produce a piece of Roman themed art using a range of media. The Romans have certainly impacted on our lives today! In the second half of the Autumn term we will continue to find out about the Romans, in particular-‘What did the Romans do for us?’
