Day for Change

We held Day for Change on 4th February to help the children understand that they are able to create change in the world through their actions. As a Rights Respecting School we teach our children that they have a part to play in the global community as well as their local community. They can understand this by learning about the lives of children in other parts of the world.

This year Day for Change raised money for children in Guyana who's lives are being affected by floods, caused by climate change. Each class decided what fundraising activity they wanted to run:
Nursery dressed up and invited their parents and carers in to play with them.
Reception had their faces painted
Year one wore yellow.
2B held a very successful tea and cake stall before their class assembly
Year 2 all made their own hats to wear for the day
Year 3 spent the day doing things backwards, including wearing their uniform
4E dressed up as their favourite celebrity
4H wore their pyjamas
Year 5 changed their nationality
Year 6 had a quiz

Each class also had a lesson to teach them more about Guyana. Mr Denman ran an art project based on the work of Aubrey Willams, a Guyanese artist.

All of the money raised by the day will benefit children in Guyana. It will go towards buying mosquito nets to prevent malaria, cold storage boxes for vaccines and rain harvesting systems which allow schools to collect fresh water for their pupils.
